Emission Reduction from Tenaga Generasi Limited Grid Connected 49.5MW Wind Power Plant.

Tenaga Generasi Limited invested in a new wind power plant to generate renewable electricity to feed into the Pakistani grid. The use of wind power for electricity generation saves greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to the conventional generation mix in Pakistan. The 49.5 MW wind farm provides 126 GWh of electricity per year – a yearly saving of 80,000 tons of CO2.

Building this project:

​

  • Stimulates and commercializes the use of grid connected renewable energy technologies and markets in Pakistan.

​

  • Increases Pakistan`s independence from energy imports.

 

  • Demonstrates the viability of grid connected wind farms which can support improved energy security, improved air  quality, alternative sustainable energy futures, improved local livelihoods and sustainable renewable energy industry development.

Social co-benefits of the project:

  • Maintaining rural development in the areas around the project site by providing infrastructural investments.

 

  • Reduction of local poverty and unemployment by increasing job opportunities.

 

  • Local sourcing of construction and maintenance materials.

 

  • Increasing the quality of regional electricity consumed by local electricity production.

 

  • Strengthening of Pakistani capabilities, competencies and self-reliance regarding introduction of innovative technologies.

Specific project goals are to:

  • Reduce other pollutants resulting from the Pakistani power generation industry.

 

  • Reduce the increasing energy deficit in Pakistan and differentiate the electricity generation mix and reduce import dependency.

Project impacts and benefits:

  • This wind power project replaces the consumption of fossil fuels and thereby contributes to the conservation of water, soil, flora and fauna. It provides the future generations energy coming from renewable resources, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions occurring from extraction, processing, transportation and burning of fossil fuels.

  • Accelerates the growth of the wind power industry and thereby encourages other entrepreneurs to invest in wind power generation and reduces the import dependency especially on natural gas.
